J.Period & Q-Tip – The Abstract Best Mixtape

February 10th, 2009 | 2 Comments | Posted in Blogroll, Mixtapes, Music News & Downloads and written by Jay Ru

Remember last week i posted De La Souls tribute to A.T.C.Q. and i told you that there wud be a mixtape to follow, well guess what? The mixtape is here. If you ask me J.Period has out done himself this time. Hope you enjoy!

“On Feb 10, 2009, Mixtape King J.Period elevates his documentary style to new heights to pay respect to this incomparable hip hop icon with The [Abstract] Best, a comprehensive collection of Q-Tip’s music and production, new remixes, interviews, plus brand new tracks from an All-Star lineup of hip hop heavyweights—paying tribute to The Abstract’s legacy.

This unprecedented mixtape arrives on the heels of Q-Tip’s critically–acclaimed album, The Renaissance (released Nov 4), and urges a new generation of fans to take note of Q-Tip’s tremendous contributions to hip hop throughout his career. The [Abstract] Best also follows J.Period & Q-Tip’s November release entitled “Q-Tip for President”—an Obama anthem that received over 100,000 downloads surrounding the Presidential Election.

But nothing makes this mixtape more highly-anticipated than the all-star lineup of contributors—De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, ?uestlove, Black Thought, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Consequence, Zion I, Skillz, Black Sheep, Kid Cudi, Blu—a first of its kind in the mixtape game, and a testament to the depth of influence Q-Tip has had on hip hop’s elite. No mixtape has ever boasted such a lineup, and no DJ has ever ventured to bring so many artists together for a single mixtape release. Hip hop’s unbridled creativity once thrived in these kinds of collaborations, and J.Period is determined to re-ignite that spirit

“I greatly appreciate the time and dedication J.Period has put into this mixtape,” say Q-Tip of the collaboration. “He has pulled together an amazing group of contributing artists, and I am honored that my music has been inspirational to all of them. The feeling is mutual.”

“Q-Tip has inspired a generation of hip hop artists and fans, and I am no exception,” seconds J.Period. “In an era of short attention spans, there is a reason why Q-Tip’s legacy has survived so long: like any great artist, his music has substance. I hope this tape shows why his name should be mentioned among hip hop’s all-time greats.”

In an unprecedented effort to make this project available to fans, J.Period will offer The [Abstract] Best, Vol. 1 will be available as a limited-time only FREE download on www.jperiod.com, beginning February 10, 2009. Fans can also tune in to J.Period’s free online radio show, sponsored by Toyota Scion ( www.scion.com/channel14 and on iTunes Radio) throughout the month of February for extended mixes, outtakes, and in-depth interviews with Q-Tip & De La Soul. The [Abstract] Best, Vol. 2 will then be offered as a free bonus with the purchase of a Limited Edition [Abstract] Best T-Shirt, designed by acclaimed visual artist Fuse Green. And finally, the entire [Abstract] Collection—The [Abstract] Best, Vol. 1 & 2, extended bonus mixes, outtakes and exclusive interview material—will be offered as a free bonus with the purchase J.Period’s latest line of Limited Edition 1gB Flash Drives—a unique, stainless-steel digital storage device, laser-engraved with the phrase “Mixtapes Are Not A Crime.”™ . “

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

This is the 2nd track to leak for the much antisipated “The Abstract Best” mixtape from J.Period. The first “Q Tip for President” went down extremely well and this should do the same. This time round De La drops fresh verses on the Tribe classic “Excursions”. When the mixtape is finished it will feature “a comprehensive collection of Q-Tip’s music and production, new remixes, interviews, plus brand new tracks from an All-Star lineup of hip hop heavyweights—paying tribute to The Abstract’s legacy.” including artists such as De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, ?uestlove, Black Thought, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Consequence, Zion I, Skillz, Black Sheep, Kid Cudi, Blu plus alot more.

DJ Graffiti Presents: Astronote – Bigger & Better (The Notorious Remixes), hosted by Talib Kweli

January 22nd, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Music News & Downloads and written by Jay Ru

My man DJ Graffiti from A-Side Worldwide hit me up with this so-weet mixtape featuring classic Big joints remixed by up and coming producer Astronote and hosted by Brooklyns own Talib Kweli. Check out the tracklist below and click the pic for the download.

I leave you with a word from DJ Graffiti:
“I already know you’re skeptical. I was too, and I manage Astronote! Think of one thing and then thank me after you listen to the remixes. This mix is hosted by Talib Kweli, one of Brooklyn’s finest. Would he jeopardize his career by attaching his name to some subpar Biggie remixes? Hell, would I jeopardize my almost career for the same reason? haha Astronote is the truth. Don’t sleep!”
