“It’s a pleasure to host this mixtape for Pugs, especially since we’re both representing the midwest and most importantly because I’m feeling every track on the mixtape. He got me thinking, ‘If the mixtape exclusives are this thorough, the album must be ridiculous!’”

DOWNLOAD HERE

Download the exclusive single from the mixtape ft. Wes Restless & Detroit’s own Finale, produced by Astronote, cuts by DJ Graffiti:  Pug$ Atomz ft. Finale & Wes Restless – Bizness

Pugs’ album “The Rooftop” is also available now, check for it on iTunes or find more information at SoFlo Entertainment.

My latest mixtape is Kindofabigdeal. It’s halfway between Certified Bangers/Killin’ The Game and Vibe Radio. 60% smoothed out and 100% hard hitting at the same time. The perfect mix for summer nights. Plus, it’s made with real bits of panther so you know it’s good. The reviews so far have been amazing. Keep ‘em comin. I’ve decided to keep this one off the Internet for a while, but I’ll have physical copies available at all of my upcoming shows

A Couple More MJ Tribute Mixes

June 27th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Blogroll, Mixtapes and written by Jay Ru

First up we’ve got a mix from brooklynradio.net’s DJ Ayers

DOWNLOAD HERE

Next we’ve got J.Periods Man or The Music, and heres what J had to say bout Micheal and the tribute

“In the world of DJs, it is common practice to pay tribute to an artist the moment they pass. Biggie, 2Pac, Jay Dilla: stature grows exponentially the moment life expires, and once-critics praise genius once deceased. Artists become icons, and followers abound. As a DJ, I have always resisted the posthumous-tribute trend. Until now.

Last night, when I heard the news of Michael Jackson’s death, I thought first about the man: damaged, bizarre, cartoonish, tragic. I sighed the way you do when a sad story comes to an end.

But then I turned on his music. Song after song, album after album – like listening for the first time – and I was floored. Years of tabloid gossip, freakshow antics and facial reconstruction may have poisoned our perception of the man… but nothing can poison this music. And it occurred to me, more than anything else, that will define the legacy of Michael Jackson.

In the history of music’s bizarre personalities and tragic stories, no artist’s music will ever eclipse the perversity of the man quite like Michael Jackson. Our love of Kanye can only survive so many ego-rants. Not even R.Kelly’s brilliant songwriting can outshine his extra-curricular activities forever. But no matter what Michael Jackson did during his life, nothing could change the way we feel about his music.

So today, in an unprecedented move, I join the ranks of what will undoubtedly be 8 million DJ tributes with my own Michael Jackson tribute, entitled “Man or the Music.” It is no “greatest hits,” no “best of” mix like J.Period fans have come to know. It is simply a stream-of-consciousness mix of my own personal favorite Michael Jackson records, plus some unreleased rarities and demo versions of MJ classics. No matter what you think of the man, I hope you enjoy the music.” – J.Period

DJ Mayhem presents The Chop Shop Podcast Vol.24

January 9th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Podcasts and written by Jay Ru

vol24We’ve set the bar pretty high for our first mix of ‘09, Dj Mayhem came to recognition as  co-host of The Next Level Hip Hop Show on Jazz fm in Dublin. He then entered the 1999 Irish DMC where he placed second in what was his First Live performance. Many more competitions followed, and in total Dj Mayhem placed Runner up in 4 DMC’s, 1 ITF and 1 DTF. He then represented Ireland at the 2002 & 2003 Battle for World Supremacy Finals in the Brixton Academy London.
Aswell as Battling others Dj’s, Mayhem would also make regular apperences in Eamonn Dorans, The Kitchen , Capital Bar, The Village, Music Center, Crawdaddy, The Pod, Rira and other venues across Ireland spinning HipHop, Soul, Jazz and Funk all mixed together with a splash of Turntablism.
During this time Mayhem got together with Messiah j and The Expert to form Creative Control and in 2001 they released their debut single “Bloodrush” followed by “Check the Vision” on  Volta Records. Both Singles would later feature on Messiah j and the Experts Debut album “Whats confusing you” in 2003.
After supporting Hip Hop artists  such as The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, Canibus, Supernatural, Roots Manuva,  Dj Qbert, Scratch Perverts, Tigerstyles, Dj Plusone, Dj Cash Money and others. 2004 saw Dj Mayhem enter the studio to team up once again withThe Next Level crew to release. The Next level years mix cd. “A well put together mix of 90’s Hip Hop featuring Classic slept on joints” – DJ Yoda Hip Hop Connection magazine.
By 2005 Dj Mayhem retired from the battle scene and took a look back at Hip Hop’s influences and created the Memorylane Mix cd. An incredible DJ workout showcasing Classic Hip Hop and the Original music that inspired it from Funk through to Jazz and a few stops inbetween.
After his perceived hiatus from the game Dj Mayhem returned to the public eye in 2007/08 to showcase even greater skills on the turntables than before with club sets in Rira, The Twisted Pepper and support slots for Immortal Technique & J-live
2009 will see the release of the long awaited Memorylane 2, The Chop Shop Mix, Allcity Records Mix and The Live as Kings Mix  with The Fruitman aswell as collaborations with Irish Artists Such as Danny Diggs, AtoB, Rob Kelly, Soulpad and Pasta Masta.

For all the Nas fans out there

August 22nd, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Blogroll and written by Jay Ru

Found this little gem over at www.okayplayer.com, the vid feature Nas, Premo, Tip, Large Professor (who’s djing in Cork next month) discussing Illmatic before i was released. To this day Illmatic is considered Nas’ finest long player, i’ll always wonder why Nas hasn’t gotten this group of producers back together for another album.
